Pleno Penetapan Komisi Pemilihan Umum Mahasiswa (KPUM) Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Ternate yang berada di Kelurahan Dufa-Dufa, Kecamatan Ternate Utara, Kota Ternate, Maluku Utara, saat ini menjadi klaim dari bakal calon Dewan Mahasiswa (DEMA). Dari lima kandidat yang memasukan berkas administrasi hanya dua kandidat yang lolos dalam pleno pemberkasan. Sementara Bakal calon yang tidak lolos tidak terima keputusan KPUM sehingga melakukan komplain, sampai terjadinya adu mulut sampai adu fisik.
Muhammad Sakti Garwan selaku ketua Komisi Pemiliham Umum Mahasiswa (KPUM) saat di wawancarai Lentera Inspiratif.com, pada minggu (14/11/2017) di sekretariat KPUM mengatakan, konflik dalam pleno itu hal biasa pasti ada orang yang tidak suka kebijakan KPUM ambil, sehingga panitia melakukan diskusi dan menetapkan satu keputusan bahwa berkas terakhir di masukan jum’at 22/12 pukul 00:00 wit. Tetapi protes kandidat yang tidak lolos dengan alasan pihak kampus memberatkan pengurusan berkas tersebut.
Masih kata ketua KPUM, Dalam hal ini Panitia KPUM memusyawarahkan untuk mencari solusi, kalau tidak kandidat yang tidak lolos akan melakukan komplen dan tensinya akan konflik jadi panitia KPUM merumuskan keputusan untuk menambah waktu pemasukan berkas yang belum lengkap sampai pada 23/12/2017 pada pukul 00:00 wit.
dua kandidat yang lolos sebelumnya menerima keputusan KPU untuk memberikan waktu para kandidat yang tidak lolos dalam untuk melengkapi data administrasi.
Sementara itu, Abdullah Salehu selaku calon kandidat DEMA yang lolos dalam pemberkasan, menegaskan salah satu kesalahan yang besar yang dilakukan oleh (KPUM) yaitu Dalam aturan pemilihan itu sangat salah, karena sudah verifikasi data maka data tersebut sudah akurat dan tidak bisa di ganggu gugat oleh siapapun, karena itu sudah keputusan KPUM.
kebijakan KPUM dianggap bisa diintervensi oleh pihak manapun. KPUM juga takut mengambil kebijakan dan takut menerima konsekuensi.
